We Provide

Complete PSH Solutions

Since its inception in 2017

Sheshyon has completed over 52 Passive Solar Heated (PSH) buildings in various regions of Ladakh, ranging from villages to border areas along China. The company has delivered over 70,000 square feet of built space for the Army, providing sustainable and comfortable living conditions for over 1600 officers and soldiers in the past four years. Additionally, we have completed over 100,000 square feet of built space for various organizations including ITBP, the Indian Air Force, Ladakh Police, SECMOL, and HIAL. Sheshyon has also been assisting local individuals and businesses in converting their properties into passive solar-heated structures.

Our success is particularly notable in constructing ‘OR’ or ‘Other Ranks’ shelters, with 28 shelters providing safe habitation for 784 soldiers. Furthermore, our Company Module typology ensures that Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) are provided with adequate accommodation.

PSH Buildings

The Sheshyon team collaborated with Sonam Wangchuk and HIAL to design an underground shelter made of high-density strawbale walls and a south-facing trombe wall. The shelter was constructed in a record time of 30 days during the peak winter season of Ladakh where temperatures remained below zero through the day.

Solar Tent

Sheshyon is currently in the process of improving the design of the first version of the solar tent prototype constructed in 2021-22. Based on building performance tests conducted in the past year, we are developing designs with better thermal performance and improved design.

SHILA Shelter

Sheshyon is developing designs of habitats combining our passive solar heating technology with modular spatial configurations such as shipping container shells. Bringing in modularity to our PSH technology will create a game-changing product for the Armed Forces as it can be quickly deployed to tough locations while continuing to be a sustainable form of living.

Passive Solar Heated Design

In an interesting contrast, the extreme cold climate of Ladakh and its high-altitude is blessed with 300 sun days every year. It receives the highest amount of radiation in the country which is about 7-7.5 kWh per square meter every day. With passive solar design strategies, this free energy can be used to meet space heating needs of the buildings with as high as 80-90% efficiency. This would not only mean saving hundreds of crores of rupees in foreign exchange but also help in maintaining energy security of the region as well as reducing the burden of GHG and black soot emissions.

Research and Development

Sheshyon is developing designs of habitats combining our passive solar heating technology with modular spatial configurations such as shipping container shells.

Underground Personnel Shelter:

The Sheshyon team collaborated with Sonam Wangchuk and HIAL to design an underground shelter made of high-density strawbale walls and a south-facing trombe wall. The shelter was constructed in a record time of 30 days during the peak winter season of Ladakh where temperatures remained below zero through the day. This shelter is designed to house 16 men, providing them with shower facilities, running water, solar electricity and comfortable living spaces. The design of this shelter aims to reduce the construction time by half of that required to build our standard SHILA shelters. These shelters can also be constructed during peak winter seasons as most of the material used does not require wet work which is not possible in sub-zero climates. The cost of these shelters are also half that of the 28-men SHILA shelters.

Solar Tent v2.0:

Sheshyon is currently in the process of improving the design of the first version of the solar tent prototype constructed in 2021-22. Based on building performance tests conducted in the past year, we are developing designs with better thermal performance and improved design. Our goal for this project is to create a product that is lightweight, rapidly deployable and provides good thermal performance using PSH methods. We are expecting to create a prototype by August 2024.

Modular PSH Shipping Container Shelters:

Sheshyon is developing designs of habitats combining our passive solar heating technology with modular spatial configurations such as shipping container shells. Bringing in modularity to our PSH technology will create a game-changing product for the Armed Forces as it can be quickly deployed to tough locations while continuing to be a sustainable form of living. The shelter shall be able to provide heating through passive methods, electricity through solar power and prevent water from freezing in extreme climates. The team plans to construct a prototype within 2024-25.
